it is a gift so can't review how well it works until after Christmas. But the delivery time was amazing...less than 24 hours after I ordered it
Just purchased the BirdReel feeder/camera. It really works well and gives you the opportunity to see the birds that are visiting your yard. Nice product.
The camera works fine just using the solar panel to keep batteries charged. Plus, with the strategic placement I can see who’s in the driveway and if the garage door was left open. Installation and setup were simple. I really like this feeder, as I have other home monitoring devices from them, but I was blown away with this feeder by all its innovation. On top of this feeder, I have more than 10 of the regular feeders as well. I just love to hear birds singing to each other, and I am happy that they enjoy my house. They attract amazing new birds daily to them. They are very well built and come with everything I need in the box. I like the versatility of mounting them in different ways and places. I have one on a tripod that I move around the yard where I want to, or I can do it one on a wooden post and the other on a metal post. They came with hose clamps to install easily anywhere on a round pole or post. Also comes with a Velcro like band I can attach to a tree without hurting the tree. The company has really put a lot of effort into the product quality and accessories. The camera is awesome. It can identify the birds through their software, it takes multiple pictures and a video when motion is captured. I love that fact I can view my birds from anywhere I’m at, even when I don’t have time, I can review them later and I can upload the videos and even send them to friends and family. It comes with a built-in white light and an alarm installed, to put extra light on a subject at night and an alarm to run squirrels and raccoons off, comes with sound to hear them live or it’s automatically captured through the videos. I think this product is great for any age and it is fun for the whole family. I am happy with this, and I can share access with family so we all can watch birds and goings on in the yard.

With its built-in HD camera, WiFi connectivity, and smart features such as auto-capture and motion detection, this bird feeder offers an enhanced bird watching experience.
One of the standout features of this bird feeder is its HD camera, which provides clear and detailed video and photo footage of birds visiting the feeder. The camera is equipped with built-in 2 solar panels, ensuring continuous power supply to keep the camera functioning without the need for frequent battery replacements.
The WiFi connectivity of this bird feeder allows you to connect it to your smartphone or tablet, giving you real-time access to the bird activities at the feeder. You can remotely view the live video feed, capture photos or videos, and share them with family and friends, making it convenient for bird watching enthusiasts.
The auto-capture feature of this bird feeder is a smart function that automatically captures videos or photos of birds when they visit the feeder. This eliminates the need for constant monitoring and ensures that you don't miss any interesting bird moments. The motion detection feature also helps to trigger the camera to capture footage when there is bird activity, making it efficient in capturing bird behavior.
The bird feeder is also designed with durability in mind, with its built-in 2 solar panels providing energy-efficient power supply and its weatherproof construction ensuring it can withstand outdoor elements. It also features a spacious feeding tray and perches to accommodate multiple birds at once, making it a welcoming spot for birds to gather and feed.
Setting up the bird feeder is easy with the included mounting hardware, and the user-friendly mobile app allows for convenient control and customization of the camera settings. The app also provides access to a library of bird videos and photos captured by the feeder, allowing you to revisit and enjoy the bird watching moments.
Overall, the BirdReel Smart Bird Feeder with Camera is a cutting-edge bird feeder that combines bird feeding with high-definition video and photo capturing capabilities. Its smart features, durable design, and easy-to-use app make it a great addition to any bird watching setup for capturing unique and captivating bird moments.
My wife is nuts for birds. She has a variety of feeders in the yard and we have a lot of bird activity on our wooded yard lot. She has been wanting one of these, so I got this for her when I saw it available. Overall, she LOVES this thing. I don't care about birds, but even I think it's a pretty cool piece of tech.
- I was nervous that wifi wouldn't work out in my yard, but the wifi on this thing has been very reliable dozens of feet beyond the house, even using my 2.4GHz guest network on my mesh router.
- Solar panel is a great alternative to frequent charging
- The app works well on Android (can't say how good it is on iOS)
- Streaming, picture/video capture, bird ID, audio, siren (scared a squirrel with it today - that was FUN!), etc. all work well without any memory card or subscription service
- Adjustable camera angle and flexible mounting options
- Weather proof, with tight fitting covers for electronic ports
- Roof tilts forward for easy access to add food
- Solidly built
- Images are good quality, but focus of course will depend on the range between the bird and the lens
Could be better
- The manual is OK, but leaves out a lot of things that would be helpful to know
- If I need to manually charge, as far as I can see I need to unscrew the mount and take in the house, or possible run a portable phone charger out to the unit and hope it doesn't rain while charging it. I don't yet know how long it will be before I need to do it, especially with decent sun exposure, but I'm not looking forward to it.
- Subscription required for cloud storage. I did order a memory card for it, but haven't installed it yet - this might be just as good as cloud storage for a very small price.
- The AI for bird identification isn't that accurate, though you can export the photos and use other identifiers. Besides, isn't half the fun figuring it out for yourself?
- Check the wifi signal (2.4GHz only!) where you plan to mount it
- Check for sun exposure where you plan to mount it
- I opted to use a board screwed into a tree. If you are mounting to a non-flat surface you might consider a similar arrangement. In any case, you will probably need a drill
- The manual has the mounting options backwards - the item actually ships in the state to mount it the way I have in the picture - with the socket at the bottom. You need to reverse the socket if you go the other way. The manual has this reversed.
- The white plastic ring goes on the opposite side of the socket from the mount on the feeder itself. I had to figure this out myself.
Overall, though, while this isn't cheap it's definitely a quality product that works well. If you love watching birds and want to see videos of them up close, this is a great feeder. It's also a great gift for a bird lover who has everything.
Both assembly of the bird house and setup of the camera (Solar powered and Wi-Fi enabled), were easy and went without a hitch.
The app is great - there are a lot of things you can do. I have alerts set up for any activity - this records a short video you can view. Some important and favorite things are the ability to snap a photo live AND the ability to have the app identify the bird (not 100% accurate, but close if you get a good snap). The bird house is equipped with a siren and one-way talk in the event you have pesky intruders that are not birds (you can modify the device volume), and of course there is video, a gallery and ability to playback and 'share'.
We free mounted ours on a 4x4 cemented inside a home improvement 5-gallon bucket so I could put plants that attract birds below the feeder and move it around as needed.
I am having fun with this, and needless to say the cats like to watch if the blinds are open for a very short-while without disturbing the birds - (short while since they can get aggravated and over-stimulated since they cannot chase the birds).
I absolutely love watching birds, and I put out several feeders each year. This is by far the best feeder ever. It is so easy to set up and to set up the app on your phone. You have the opportunity to watch birds like never before seen. They are up close and personal. Hummingbirds are the best because they move so fast and it is all caught on camera. This was priced so right. it is indeed very giftable for that VIP in your life.
I don’t even care for birds that much - they’re beautiful, but they don’t interest me that much. My husband, however, loves watching birds and always makes sure they are well fed. He was thrilled to try out this smart feeder. I was anxious because I knew I’d be the one tasked at setting it up. When I took out the THICK instructional booklet, I was even more worried. It was all for nothing, because setup could not have been easier. If you can operate a smart phone and have ever used any app to customize something, you can do this!
I did have a little trouble figuring out how to get the top to latch on correctly but once I did, I felt pretty dumb. The camera wires just need to be plugged in, the app does the rest. I am AMAZED at how great the camera is - security camera companies should take a lesson. The camera is auto triggered and there are infinite possibilities on how you can tweak - want notifications? Done. Don’t? Done. Want to be alerted during the day but not certain hours? It’ll do that too.
Solar powered and connected via WiFi, all you have to to is install it outside. The included bracket and hardware work perfectly and you can adjust for proper placement. If you’re not that into birds yet, you will be after seeing this smart feeder.
I got this for my mom to use. She loves birds and I thought this would make her happy being able to bring some nature to the house!
The assembly was pretty straight forward. It doesn't come with a micro SD card, so you'll need to purchase your own if you want to use it without subscribing to their paid cloud service. We're using this with an SD card and without a subscription and it works great!
The lowest we've seen the battery drop on the camera so far is 84%, and it's always charged itself back up to 100% by noon - and that's even on cloudy days!
It took a few weeks before birds started visiting - but I realized I didn't know how to attract birds to the feeder. Word of advise - to attract the birds to the feeder in the beginning, spread some bird seed around the ground in front of the feeder. The birds will notice the scattered seeds easier than the feeder, but once they go towards the seed on the ground, they notice it. Then you'll have visitors all day every day!
We've seen Chickadees, Red House Finches, and a couple other species of birds visit so far. The app does a good job of identifying the bird species too. The Red House Finches are our most common visitors.
The camera on this device takes good photos and the recordings come out well too! It also seems to stay connected to our WiFi as well.
Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase. It was a great gift for my mom and we all really enjoy checking on the visitors of the day! I'd recommend this to anyone that's a bird lover!
This is our third smart bird feeder. I love that this one has two solar panels, and it's easier to fill than our other two. The video quality is great, both day and night. We are in the midwest US where it's cloudy as often as it's sunny, and we haven't had any issue with available sunshine keeping it charged up.
It uses the Bird Lover app, which allows for a lot of flexibility in settings, including notifications. It also has two way audio, so you can say, "Shoo!" to squirrels if you want, or you can use the siren button to scare them off.
You will need to get an SD card for it unless you want to pay for cloud storage, but that's no big deal. When you put the card in the unit, it will allow you to format it in place.
You will definitely want to mount this feeder in a way that prevents squirrels from accessing it. We use high quality baffles on the mounting post. If squirrels do get to it, they can gnaw right through the plastic to get to the food in the hopper.
This feeder uses 2.4ghz Wi-Fi, so if you have a dual band router, you may need to fuss with things a bit to get it set up. But once you do, it's easy peasy!
This is a great product and I highly recommend it!
The camera and app were mostly easy to set up. It took me about 30 minutes to figure it all out with the directions. The app is very useful, but there are so many things to learn, I definitely needed the directions booklet. The feeder was easy to install and came with everything needed. You must install where the camera will not get direct sunlight, so be sure to consider that before installing. The camera produces a nice picture, and also has motion detection, so you will get a picture when it detects a bird. We decided to place ours where the camera will also see most of our backyard so we can use it for security purposes as well. The top pivots open from the back by pushing a small button to release it. That is how you add the bird seed, so make sure you leave yourself enough room to reach that little button back there. This is an amazing product, and we absolutely love it! It makes bird watching so fun, because we get to see things we wouldn't normally see by just watching from our patio.
This is my second camera/bird feeder and it really stands above the other one. I can definitely recommend this one.
It's easy to set up - the only tools you'll need are to attach the mount.
For the most part I like the mount. The only problem with it is that the corner of the roof won't quite clear the mount when if you rotate the feeder - you have to bend the bracket a little to get it past.
The camera itself is well protected from weather. It comes pre-installed so you don't have to mount it. The mount tilts forward to give you access to the SD card slot and power plug.
The solar panel being on the roof makes it very self-contained. It means that you can't place the camera in a shady area and remotely connect the solar panel, but trust me this is the better solution.
The feeder has drainage holes in the tray - this is definitely something you want. My other feeder does not and the rain can waterlog the food.
All of these feeders have a free version of the app, but try to upsell you to a monthly fee. This one tries to upsell you to get access to the cloud data - it seems like they're automatically uploading the video to the cloud whether you pay or not, but you can't get it from there unless you pay. The video is still available from the SD card though so it's not a necessity. My other camera wanted to charge for the bird recognition AI, but this one does not. The AI is kind of terrible, but it is on the one you have to pay for too, so I know it isn't just bad because it's free.
This one definitely gets my thumbs up.
The BirdReel Bird Feeder with HD Camera has truly transformed the bird-watching experience. This innovative bird feeder comes equipped with a built-in HD camera and two solar panels, making it a smart and eco-friendly addition to the yard.
One of the standout features of this bird feeder is its ability to capture bird videos automatically. The motion detection technology ensures that every bird that visits the feeder is recorded, providing me with a unique glimpse into their world. The video quality is impressive and captures excellent images.
The inclusion of solar panels is awesome. They efficiently power the camera and eliminate the need for constant battery changes or charging. This sustainable approach is both environmentally friendly and convenient. I wish more products would take this approach.
Setting up the bird feeder and camera was straightforward, thanks to the user-friendly design and clear instructions. I love how I can access the captured videos and images remotely through the accompanying app, allowing me to enjoy the birds' visits even when I'm not at home.
Overall, the BirdReel Bird Feeder with HD Camera has added a new level of excitement to bird-watching. It's a brilliant combination of technology and birds. If you're a bird enthusiast or simply looking for a unique outdoor camera experience, I highly recommend giving this smart bird feeder a try.
I am so excited about this feeder. I can't wait to start capturing photos. It has a clear picture, streams to my phone really well, and night vision is good too. Unfortunately, the weather turned a bit colder again and the birds haven't found the new feeder yet. It was very easy to assemble, and filling is easy as well. There's a latch at the back of the roof and it just unlatches and tips forward. The solar panels on top keep it powered so you don't have to plug it in. You do need to be close enough to a wifi signal to connect though. Super sturdy hardware to mount it. I'll post more photos once I start getting some birds. You can use an SD card to collect and save images, or purchase cloud service. I did the later as it was very affordable and much easier. I also haven't been able to try to bird identifier yet either... But am looking forward to it.
